As with Cabernet, we strive to produce a Merlot that is both age-worthy and enjoyable to drink young. To do so, we source high-quality fruit from carefully selected Mendocino and Lake County vineyards and age the wine for an extended period in small oak barrels to round out its body and smooth its tannins. Our Merlot typically displays an engaging, complex aroma of ripe black cherry fruit mixed with scents of mint, herb tea, tobacco leaf, and toasty oak vanillin. The wine’s rich, juicy, spicy, black cherry flavors are long and smooth on the palate and balanced and complemented by a savory, toasty oak tone. Delicious to drink young, it makes a wonderful accompaniment to roast and grilled chicken, simple beef and lamb dishes and flavorful cheeses.
