Parducci Wine Cellars was honored with the 2014 Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) this past Wednesday, January 21, 2015. This marks the third GEELA win for PWC and Mendocino Wine Company, in the category of Agricultural Ecosystem Services.
“We are honored to play our part in reclaiming and sustaining a healthy environment,” said Tim Thornhill upon receiving the award. “This award is an affirmation of Mendocino Wine Company’s and the Thornhill family’s commitment to our environment and community.”
Mendocino Wine Compnay is the nation's first carbon-neutral winery, reclaiming 100% of the water used in its winery cellars via an on-site system of constructed wetlands; it has also been recognized by the Audobon Society for the role that habitat plays in the annual bird count.
The Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award Program is California's highest environmental honor. The program recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made notable, voluntary contributions in conserving California's precious resources, protecting and enhancing our environment, building public-private partnerships and strengthening the State's economy.
