Ukiah Daily Journal Covers Coro Mendocino Winemakers Meet At Parducci Cellars

John Compisi of the Ukiah Daily Journal reports that the Coro Mendocino winemakers recently held the third blending meeting for the 2013 vintage at Parducci Cellars. From its start in the year 2000, this collaborative wine program aims "to produce a variety of small lot signature wines that preserve the heritage of Mendocino's founding vintners " with strict protocols for grape varieties and blending percentages, among other factors.

Eight current Coro producers, including Parducci Wine Cellars, attended the meeting. Flights were poured from eight brown paper wrapped bottles and commented upon before the bottles' identities were revealed.

Flights of Fancy Tasting!

Coro production protocol specifies a minimum 40 percent Zinfandel and includes severlal other pre-approved grapes such as Carignan, Dolcetto, and Primitivo.

Compisi noted a dramatic change since the meeting in January: "Clearly the individual winemakers listened and adapted their blend based upon their own assessment and the unbiased feedback from their peers. One winemaker adjusted the wood (barrels) he was using while adjusting the specific wines in the blend. Another racked and re-racked the wine to highlight one characteristic while minimizing another less desirable one. The collaboration among winemakers between these blending meetings was quite evident and was actually very fascinating. They trust and respect each others' knowledge and experience. The final blends will surely benefit from this collaboration."
