Truly Net Recommends True Grit Reds For The Holidays

Truly Net strongly recommends a pair of Parducci True Grit reds as the ideal bottles for a holiday family meal this year.

2012 True Grit Reserve Petite Sirah: "Flush with full fruit, this velvety wine has a bit of Syrah as well (8%) and just a touch of Grenache (1%). Aged in a mix of New American oak and seasoned French/American, it’s well-balanced and can definitely hold up to a few more years of time in the bottle but is eminently drinkable now. Official tasting notes mention 'white pepper and vanilla, followed by an intense rush of fresh blackberry, dark chocolate, pepper and caramel flavors'- but when we opened ours, a bit of time aerating brought out a bit more of the spice."

2012 Cabernet Sauvignon: "Classically built, this is a deep and dark, meaty wine ideal for pairing with the Christmas lamb, and there are plenty of tannins to work around and feel...The True Grit wines seem a drinkable embodiment of the Mendocino ethos with an Italian heritage- solid, uncomplicated, and satisfying."

"2013 True Grit Reserve Petite Sirah is stunning in the glass with its dark, brooding, almost black-garnet hue that leads to a bold, rich and luscious wine that serves up intense blueberry, vibrant blackberry and deep dark chocolate, and finishes with hints of white pepper and clove. This wine is not for the faint of heart and should be decanted before serving. I give this wine a rating of 93 points."

Parducci Winemaker Bob Swain Talks Petite Sirah With The Napa Valley Register

Parducci winemaker Bob Swain discusses the unique attributes and history of Petite Sirah as a heritage grape with the Napa Valley Register.

The Napa Valley Register spoke with several Napa Valley winemakers about this pivotal grape:

“Here at Parducci we have been looking at petite sirah as a standalone variety for 50 years,” said Bob Swain, winemaker at Parducci Wine Cellars and Mendocino Wine Co. “The variety is interesting as a blender to bring structure and color to other wines but is more interesting on its own. The biggest challenge and its biggest attribute is the wine’s tannin structure. You need to tame its big tannins but also retain them to give the wine its core structure without being too aggressive. This variety, if made well, can age as well or better than cabernets here in California. We have examples from the 1980s at Parducci that are still alive and vibrant today.”

Examiner.com Salutes True Grit's Taste Of The Old West

Examiner.com praises Parducci True Grit Reserve Wines with a thoughtful review detailing each reserve selection, and gives props to proprieter Tim Thornhill for his "selective fruit sourcing and hands-on winemaking."

The review notes the distinctive attributes of each True Grit offering:

2013 True Grit Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon: "This 'Big Boy' needs time to breathe and to show off burly cassis and mint aromas. Multi-layered cherry, currant and warm spice flavors linger in a long, elegant finish."

2013 True Grit Reserve Petite Sirah: "The intense, inky  has small additions of syrah and grenache added for complexity and powerful backbone. Herbaceous aromas of ripe, black fruit entice as cascades of blackberry, dark chocolate and pepper dance on the palate."

2013 True Grit Reserve Chardonnay: "Opens with frisky apple and peach aromas. This straw-hued wine has silky pear, lemon custard and creamy apple flavors. This chardonnay is food friendly and will gladly share the menu with holiday dishes."

2013 True Grit Reserve Red Blend: "A seductive merger of mainly syrah with dollops of zinfandel and petite sirah for structure. Tempting aromas of plum and black cherry open to ripe blueberry, cherry and spice tart flavors."

Wine Enthusiast Gives 91 Points To 2013 True Grit Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Enthusiast Magazine rates the 2013 True Grit Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 91 points!

Proprietor Tim Thornhill in the Vineyard with True Grit

Wine Expert Jim Gordon writes: "This is a big and brooding wine, with flavors initally restrained behind a textured and massively structured body. On second and third sips, black chocolate, dark cherry and black pepper flavors start to emerge. This is tempting to drink now, but should be best from 2018 to 2023."

Parducci True Grit Reserve wines are boldly expressive of varietal character, the product of very selective fruit sourcing and hands-on winemaking. Each vintage gives the full range of expression for a fearlessly distinct wine. Read more >
