Spotlight on: Parducci RESERVE Brut

Parducci Reserve Brut is a sparkling wine crafted in the méthode champenoise. This winemaking style is associated with the famed bubbly wines of the Champagne region in France in which the cuvee is subject to a secondary fermentation in the bottle: the process responsible for the wine’s distinctive bubbles and creamy nuances.

From Mendocino County with ♥

Parducci honors this heritage with a classic champagne varietal blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes sourced from Potter Valley, a Mendocino County appellation that’s a short twenty-minute drive northeast of the Parducci estate. Hot days followed by cool nights make this microclimate especially suitable for the complex, full expression of both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

A Historic Romance

While sparkling wine is often associated with formal get-togethers and certain romantic holidays (hey-o weddings, New Years, and Valentine’s Day!), bubbly should not be overlooked for more everyday occasions. Think of sparkling wine as a welcome twinkle in the eye. A bottle chilled just so adds charm and an extra sense of festivity to a low-key gathering, and its food pairing versatility cannot be overstated.

Parducci RESERVE Brut is a dry style of sparkling wine that comes alive in the glass with crisp fruit flavors—green apple, grapefruit, and pineapple—and a honeyed rose and cream finish. Here Parducci staff shares some of their favorite pairings to get your own kitchen inspiration going.

  • Pesto Pizza

"I live in Redwood Valley and there is this delicious, down home, take and bake pizza place, Pizza Etc! It's a local's favorite. All the pizzas have a local name twist to them and the owner loves to tell you the history behind the names. I paired our Brut with the Boontling (named after Boonville's secret language) on National Pizza Day. I'm drooling even thinking about it. To sum it up Pizza and Brut. Easy way to class up an easy dinner night!"
- Angelica M., Wine Club Coordinator

  • Fruit & Something Deliciously Creamy

"Chocolate-covered strawberries are always classic."
- Heather H., Direct to Consumer Director
"Brie and apricots! Here is a very cool, unique recipe... delish!"
- Quinn P., Financial & Administrative Specialist

  •  Salty & Seafood

"Anything that's deep fried or salty i.e. fish 'n' chips or fried chicken. And of course smoked salmon!"
- Quinn P.
"We always have the Brut when we have oysters or crab, but really, the Brut pairs beautifully with Wednesday, unless it happens to be another day of the week…. That works, too."
- Dalice, Tasting Room Associate

Spotlight On: Parducci Small Lot Blend Muscat Canelli

Muscat Canelli and Parducci Wine Cellars go way back. We’ve been crafting this fragrant, white wine for well over 30 years: some vintages as a full-on dessert wine, others as a medium-sweet wine with a flavor profile more closely akin to Gewürztraminer.

"Muscat Canelli is the wine that brought me to Parducci 25 years ago.
It is sweet but clears nicely and is, for me, the perfect sipping wine. Great with Brie and strawberries also."
- Laurel Connell, 5 Star Review on Parducci.com

Known in France as Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, the varietal is most often used in the making of sweet and sparkling wines. Parducci Winemaker Bob Swain describes Muscat Canelli as “sweet and tasty with a characteristic floral smell coming from the terpenes,” a type of aroma compound that contributes to a wine’s fruit, floral, and herbal flavors.

Of course, Muscat Canelli’s enduring appeal extends back even longer in viticulture history. Like, all the way back. Genetic sequencing has found that every noble European grape variety can trace its roots back to this enchanting wine. As in: this is the grape that begat all others.

Reminiscent of the wines of myth and poetry, Parducci Small Lot Blend Muscat Canelli is a true feast for the senses (think lychee and fresh peach). This balanced beauty is an always reliable party-starter, the perfect match for spicy international cuisine or your favorite cheese, fruit, and charcuterie tray. Yum, we're getting hungry (and thirsty!) Time to pass the apps and open a bottle.

Examiner.com Enjoys True Grit Reserve Wines

Examiner.com provides a succinct but comprehensive history of Parducci Family Cellars before extolling the virtues of the True Grit Reserve line of wines and offering some mouth-watering food parings.

The Examiner's True Grit Reserve tasting notes:

2013 Reserve Chardonnay: "This elegant Chardonnay shows a nice balance between fruit, acidity, and wood. Green apple, lemon and caramel on the aromas. Lovely dance of ripe pears, pineapple and caramelized apples on the palate. We enjoyed this wine paired with a homemade mac & cheese."

2012 Reserve Red: "This approachable red blend shows aromas of ripe plum, vanilla, and hints of spiced rum. On the palate, this wine feels well structured, with pleasant tannins and acidity. Displays flavors of ripe blackberries, plum, baking spices and notes of wood. We enjoyed this wine with thick pork chops seared in the pan and finished in the oven; seasoned with a rub of kosher salt, black pepper, paprika, onion powder, and garlic."

2013 Reserve Petite Sirah: "This wine has a very expressive bouquet of ripe raspberries, violets, sweet vanilla and notes of coffee bean. On the palate, this well-crated wine feels silky with flavors of ripe dark fruit, black pepper and sautéed mushrooms. This Petite Sirah has pleasant acidity with a deep finish of ripe fruit and toffee flavors and smooth tannins. We enjoyed this wine with a Neapolitan-style pizza topped with pepperoni, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and fennel."

2013 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon: "This robust Cabernet Sauvignon shows aromas of dark berries, red currants, toasted wood and hints of eucalyptus and wet slate. On the palate, this wine feels a bit chewy and well-balanced with bold flavors of dark plums, ripe fig, dark berries, and notes of earth."

50 States of Wine's tasting notes: "True Grit Reserve Red Mendocino County 2012: Syrah, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah blend; ruby red color; bright red berry, cherry soda, and plum aromas; red plum, dark cherry, and toast flavors; nicely balanced; smooth mouthfeel into a slightly tannic finish; cork closure. Paired with a coffee crusted steak and potatoes au gratin, fantastic."

"True Grit Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Mendocino County 2013: deep dark purple with ruby edges; plum, earth and cherry aromas; dark cherry, black currant, oregano flavors with a spicy finish; super smooth mouthfeel, beautiful balance; cork closure. Paired with a pizza dinner, stood up wonderfully to pepperoni, Italian sausage and giardiniera."

"True Grit Mendocino Reserve Petite Sirah 2013: deep opaque purple with ruby edges; dark fruit, toast and tar aromas; prune, tart red berry, earth and cassis flavors; smooth body, acid backbone, and a tannic finish make this a pleasure to drink now, but should improve with some cellar time; cork closure. Texas Wine Lover Asks The 2013 True Grit RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon To Go Steady

Texas Wine Lover writes a sweetly sensual review of the 2013 True Grit RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon, starting by removing the cork: "Even before pouring the wine in the glass, I already knew this wine was going to suit my tastes. In the glass the wine pours a deep ruby with a slightly lighter rim. The nose is quite layered for such a youthful wine showcasing notes of black currant, black cherries, vegetal notes, bell pepper, and menthol. The palate is similar, but offers up nuances of flamboyant black fruits, coffee bean, mint, and the mouthfeel is quite dusty, which is a complement to the True Grit namesake. This wine ends with a fairly long and supple finish on the back palate."

Texas Wine Lover continues: "My honest thoughts are buy it and drink it now for a youthful and complex wine. Cellar it for a later date to coax softer components from the evolving liquid abyss...this wine is very drinkable and offers enough substance to really get you thinking. It gets an A+ in my book for quality and balance, with a swath of complexity to swim though as you geek out and savor every drop of this wine."

Truly Net Recommends True Grit Reds For The Holidays

Truly Net strongly recommends a pair of Parducci True Grit reds as the ideal bottles for a holiday family meal this year.

2012 True Grit Reserve Petite Sirah: "Flush with full fruit, this velvety wine has a bit of Syrah as well (8%) and just a touch of Grenache (1%). Aged in a mix of New American oak and seasoned French/American, it’s well-balanced and can definitely hold up to a few more years of time in the bottle but is eminently drinkable now. Official tasting notes mention 'white pepper and vanilla, followed by an intense rush of fresh blackberry, dark chocolate, pepper and caramel flavors'- but when we opened ours, a bit of time aerating brought out a bit more of the spice."

2012 Cabernet Sauvignon: "Classically built, this is a deep and dark, meaty wine ideal for pairing with the Christmas lamb, and there are plenty of tannins to work around and feel...The True Grit wines seem a drinkable embodiment of the Mendocino ethos with an Italian heritage- solid, uncomplicated, and satisfying."
