1986 Parducci Petite Sirah

1986 Parducci Petite Sirah

Leather and rose on the nose as well as acid, integrated tannins, and tar on the palate leave this wine reminiscent of aged Barolo. Of great length and breadth, many pleasing years ahead.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
by Tim Gaiser, Master Sommelier "SIGHT: Medium Plus, Garnet ruby NOSE: Dried fruits, cranberry, dark cherry and pomegranate with dried white flowers, mace leather, black tea and dusty earth. PALATE: Tart, vibrant, lift; not quite as complex as the ’82 or ’83, very good."
Vineyard Notes
The vintage: The spring was warm, particularly around the bloom period. Heavy rains in February and March saturated the ground and made up for the dryness of 1985. Rain in September wasn’t too much of an issue for Petite Sirah, and a warm, cool October pushed the fruit to maturity.
Production Notes
85.8% Petite Sirah, 14.2% Carignane
Winemaker Notes
"We have taken significant steps to ensure that these wines are drinking great and still ageable. As Penfolds has done with its Grange, I have personally tasted through each and every bottle, and used sacrifice bottles to top up and re-cork them. We hope those who get to enjoy these have aged as well as the wines have!” - Bob Swain, Parducci Head Winemaker
The remarkable Parducci Wine Cellars Library is solely available to Parducci Reserve Wine Club Members. The first wines to be made available in the library include Petite Sirahs from 1982 through 1988. These heritage wines are the last real inventory of wines made under winery founder John Parducci’s leadership.
